CES 2022: Intel Teases Untethered Project Alloy VR Headsets by Year's End
Intel expects to launch its Intel Project Blend-based virtual reality (VR) headsets by year's stop, allowing enthusiasts to motion around a room without beingness tethered to a PC.
It has already engaged its OEM partners.
The chip maker first showed off Intel Project Alloy last summer at its programmer conference and Intel CEO, Brian Krzanich, said at the Intel CES 2022 press event that it's "progressing very well." So well, in fact, that Intel expects to release Project Alloy headsets by the fourth quarter via its "top OEM partners."
At CES 2022, 2 people wearing un-tethered Intel Project Blend headsets took to the stage to play a game in a mock living room. When the game turned on, the room became a space bunker and the players are now firing weapons at invaders. Equally Krzanich noted, the setup is unique because both men could run across and battle each other in the aforementioned scene. Typically, VR is a solo endeavor.
There are no sensors in the fake living room, Intel said; players but had the headset and controllers, and Intel promised 'seamless tracking' built into the device. "Everything is in the headset itself; you merely put it on, power up, and you're ready to go," Krzanich shared.
Pricing had not been discussed, nor are there whatsoever other details well-nigh the partners that might participate. Krzanich did stressed that Intel Project Blend is an open platform available to anyone who wants to assist bring VR to life.
